NSFAS Online Application, How To Track NSFAS Status

National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) will be opening the application for financial assistance in 2021 for students wishing to further their studies at any of the 26 public universities or 50 TVET colleges in South Africa.

ABOUT NSFAS

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) was formed in terms of the National Student Financial Aid Scheme. NSFAS is a bursary scheme which provides poor and working class South African students with fully subsidized free higher education and training.

NSFAS’s vision is to provides students from poor and working class families with financial aid, to undertake studies at public universities and TVET colleges.

How to Apply NSFAS Online 👇

There are 3 ways in which you can apply:

METHOD 1: On the NSFAS website (if you wish to apply online, follow the instructions below)

  1. Create your myNSFAS account here: https://my.nsfas.org.za/mynsfas/selfservice.html
  2. You will be required to provide the following information when registering an account: username, password, ID number, cellphone number and email address
  3. You can then login using your selected username and password
  4. Complete the application form by clicking the “apply” button
  5. When you have filled in all the required information (do not leave any fields blank), you can upload electronic copies of your supporting documents (as listed below). Once all your documents have been uploaded, click the “submit” button to receive your reference number

METHOD 2: At your closest NYDA Centre

  1. Visit a NYDA centre/ office closest to you
  2. A NYDA centre worker will explain the application process and provide you with an application form to complete
  3. Complete the application form in CAPITAL letters with a black pen and sign it in the allocated spots
  4. Hand in your application form and supporting documents (as listed below). Ensure that your supporting documents are certified on the front of the page and not be older than 3 months.
  5. You will receive a receipt card with a bar code attached

METHOD 3: At a Financial Aid Office on campus/ computer lab

Requirements for NSFAS Application 👇

Make sure that you have certified and valid copies of the following documents before attempting to apply for funding:

Your South African identity document/card (or an unabridged birth certificate (if you are younger than 16 years old)
ID of parents and/or guardian (or death certificate where applicable)
Pay advice/letter of employment/pension advice stating income (SASSA slips are not required and SASSA should not be included as household income)
A completed and signed consent form, which you may download here and must be filled in with your parent/guardian’s signatures. Applications without a consent form signed by all people whose incomes have been declared in the application will not be accepted and will be considered incomplete.
If you have a disability, please download the Disability Annexure A from www.nsfas.org.za fill it in and submit it with your application

NB: The stamp on all certified documents should not be older than three months.

Step by Step process to track your Nsfas Application from your phone or computer

Step 1:

If you would like to check the status of your 2020 / 2021 NSFAS application, please visit the NSFAS website. Click on MyNSFAS account and login with your ID and the password you created during your application.

Step 2:

Click on MyNSFAS account and login with your ID and the password you created during your application.
If the status of your application is “Provisionally Funded”, please contact Unisa’s Division: Student Funding (DSF). Please contact NSFAS for all other outcomes, as NSFAS is responsible for the application process.
