Packaging Production Manager

An opportunity has become available for a technical expert to take on the challenging role of Packaging Production Manager to lead and support the packaging teams in order to meet customer requirements and ensure that world-class products coupled with quality targets are achieved in the most cost effective manner. The successful candidate will be based in Isando and report directly to the Manufacturing Manager.

Key Performance Areas:

  • Ensuring reliable supply from packaging operations
  • Maintain a safe and organized work environment
  • To effectively empower and develop staff through goal setting and performance management in order to enable them to contribute effectively and make proper decisions
  • Ensuring high efficiency, excellent quality, low rework, and low waste (raws & pack) methodologies and implementation strategies
  • To ensure optimal volume output through effective liaison with all support functions such as Supply Chain,
  • Quality and Engineering
  • Manage and ensure cost-effective labour usage in accordance with manning plans
  • Analyzing and resolving production histograms for continuous improvement opportunities
  • To ensure that operating specifications are in place and are achievable (correctly implemented)
  • Effectively manage operational budget and cost-effectiveness
  • To ensure adherence to SHEQ; QMS and Food defense and overall food safety compliance
  • Ensure proper weekly cycle counts and monthly stock-takes delivers world-class reputable results
  • Proper administration duties in terms of production data gathering, compiling, and reconciling
  • Performance management of staff
  • Work with engineering in shutdown, breakdown, and preventative maintenance practices

Experience:

  • 5 – 7 years experience in the production environment, with 2-3 years packing related experience
  • Experience in a managerial role

Qualifications:

  • Relevant National Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering

Knowledge:

  • FMCG – Food Packaging
  • Packing equipment operation, fault finding and preventative maintenance practices, and working knowledge
  • Understanding Process Flow, PIDs, etc.
  • Management information systems such as Shoplogix, Shopware, and or Scada
  • Experience in SAP Manufacturing & HR mandatory
  • Exposure to GMP and FSSC standards and systems
  • LRA practical knowledge; experience in people management & IR related matters, including initiating enquiries and chairing of hearings
  • OHSAS 18000, ISO 14001, ISO 9001, or related system will be an added advantage
  • Lean Manufacturing Principles
  • SOP’s; Work Instructions and OPL’s formalising & training
  • Root Cause Analysis and Non-conformance practices
