To assist in the effective management of the warehouse and distribution functions in order to supply goods (schedule

6 medicines, high value, cytostatic and cold chain products (for human and animal use)), management of damaged

and expired stock and service to customers whilst conforming to statutory requirements of the South African Health

Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) and South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).

Key Performance Areas:

  • Ensure effective wholesale and distribution management
  • Staff management

Job Objectives

  • Assist to ensure that the depot is managed within the legal requirements
  • Supervise the wholesale pharmacy
  • Assist to ensure safe and effective storage and keeping of medicine or scheduled substances
  • Assist to take corrective measures regarding deficiencies with regards to inspection
  • Ensure good housekeeping standards are met
  • Ensure adherence to occupational health and safety regulations
  • Ensure correct and effective record keeping of all legally required products, purchases, sales, possessions, storage, safekeeping and returns
  • Accurately and timeously place orders for schedule 6 drugs when required and send to suppliers
  • Ensure compliance with all legal requirements regarding the issuing of schedule substances
  • Ensure that the quality and integrity of products stored, returned and sold are maintained
  • Ensure the correct and timeous receipt, picking, packing and despatch of goods
  • Ensure cold chain maintenance
  • Ensure batch traceability
  • Ensure the correct handling of goods near expiry, removal and destruction of expired stock according to legal requirements
  • Ensure that all product complaints and customer queries are investigated, followed up, resolved and recorded within specified timelines
  • Ensure that medicine withdrawals or recalls are performed timeously, that batches are traceable and invoices reflect batch numbers
  • Ensure that goods returned to the wholesale pharmacy from the retailer and goods due to be rejected are handled as per the policies and procedures
  • Decide on accepting and rejecting of goods returned and ensure that necessary actions are taken
  • Implement cost control measures regarding breakages, spoilage’s, mistakes
  • Ensure accurate and timeous filing of acceptable schedule 6 order forms
  • Manage performance management within area of responsibility
  • Ensure staff competence and regular training regarding the use of systems and processes and legal compliance
  • Serve as a tutor by providing training for new Trainee Pharmacist Assistants and/or Technicians
  • Identify development needs in collaboration with the Distribution Centre Manager and find ways to address these
  • Serve as a Deputy Responsible Pharmacist when needed
  • Manage employee relations in area

Qualifications

  • BPharm Degree / Equivalent Pharmaceutical qualification
  • Registered as a pharmacist at the pharmacy council (SAPC)

Experience

  • 5 years’ experience as a Pharmacist of which 2-3 years’ consist of Warehousing and/or Hospital Pharmacy and/or Manufacturing experience (advantageous).

Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of legal and statutory requirements
  • Sound understanding of Warehouse management
  • Computer skills (MS Word, MS Powerpoint, MS Excel, G Suite)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Management skills
  • Excellent numerical skills
  • Strong accuracy and attention to detail skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure
