Diabetic sores sound like the scariest sight to the diabetic client and his or her care giver.

complications of this can lead to huge ulcerations and possibly amputations if they are not taken care of. But this can be prevented in the following few steps.

Inspect Your Foot Daily:

using a mirror and or a magnifying glass, check your feet everyday for the presence of blisters, cuts and redness or any form of swelling

Bathe your feet in lukewarm water, not hot water

use lukewarm water to bathe your feet daily. Use the bathe temperature for that of an new born (i.e. 100F or 37C)

Be tender with the feet

wash cloths or foams should be used in bathing the feet and should be dabbed afterwards not wiped. In between toes must be dubbed dry!

Wear clean dry socks and change them daily

clean socks should always be worn at all times. As a diabetic there is no space on your foot for dirt and or wet socks

Shake out shoes before wearing

it must be noted that sometimes pebbles and sand enters our shoes it is apparent to shake them before wearing to prevent them from blistering our toes.

Nail trimming

trim nails across by using nail cutters. do not remove cuticles as this in most cases cause unwanted sores

Moisturizing

the skin of the feet can be moisturized daily to prevent drying and cracking but one must avoid moisturizing in between toes!

Keep foot warm and dry

this is as simple as it sounds, keep moisture away from your foot as much as you can. Dab the foot as often to keep it dry especially on warm days.

Have periodic foot exams

visit your podiatrist at least once every month to get your feet professionally checked.
